Coworker in the Gospel

"We sent Timothy, who is our brother and God's fellow worker in spreading the gospel of Christ." 1 Thessalonians 3:2

Timothy was God's fellow worker in spreading the gospel of Christ. That title—God's fellow worker or coworker—might bring an image to mind of what we know as modern office employees.

As God's coworker, Timothy worked alongside the Creator of heaven and earth, the God who delivered His people out of Egypt, the God who broke into our world and lived a perfect life for us, the God who took our punishment for sin on the cross. As God's coworker, Timothy worked on projects with titles like Freedom, Redemption, Justice, and Love. Just imagine!

Having God as your coworker doesn't mean you are His equal, but it does mean you are guaranteed success. God is never late to work, He shares His resources, and He listens. Not only will He make you look good, He'll glorify you in His perfect holiness.

Of course, God doesn't need our contributions. And we don't even deserve to serve Him in His work. But God is good and full of grace. Despite our sin, He makes us useful to Him. God gives us gifts and resources… He gives us Himself.
