The Redcliffe Dolphins will be unveiled as the expansion club that the NRL will introduce in 2023, reports Michael Chammas of the Sydney Morning Herald.
Chammas is confident the Dolphins are ready to beat the Brisbane Jets and Brisbane Firehawks for the 17th NRL license, after a deal struck with News Corp ensured that an extra $ 75- $ 100 million would be injected into the game in five years. . This comes on top of the $ 1 billion deal already agreed with News Corp for 2023-2027 broadcast rights.
When Chammas analyzed the situation on 2GB’s Wide World of Sports radio, he said he would be stunned if the Dolphins weren’t revealed as the expansion club.

“It looks like it will be the Redcliffe Dolphins. I don’t think they will be called that when they are the official expansion team, but this is the offer that has (been) put forward,” said Chammas.
“There is a meeting with the NRL and all the clubs on Thursday to review finances. There is a $ 75 to $ 100 million deal with News Corp that is about to be reached that will provide the funding to assist the clubs and of course assist. the expansion team.
“So on Friday the evaluation committee will have to make a recommendation on what the offer will be.
“You can assume it’s going to be the Dolphins; that’s the favorite.
“And then from that moment on, once the recommendation is determined, they will hold a committee meeting and make that decision.
“I would be flabbergasted if the Dolphins weren’t in the (NRL) in 2023.”

It has long been believed that outgoing Rabbitohs manager Wayne Bennett will lead the new expansion club.
Jason Demetriou takes over from Bennett as South Sydney manager and the seven-time mentor is on his way to Queensland.
“(The expansion club) will cause a frenzy in the market with the players, because the managers will line up the players with the expansion team, there will be players who will look for other options, it will be a great year in recruiting,” Chammas said.
